This little housekeeper's desk and chair are barewood ones stained and waxed. <br />

Now Autumn is very much upon us and the days are shorter and colder, it's not quite as pleasant being out there so the minis and blogs are getting some attention.<br />
Here are a few little things I've been up to.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3oKTk6iH2-zyFzmGr68kCKYaGTLJGcevaYDZxVD_3tHVAfq0qyIVp7-DsQUkdm32ZrrJMZQprDGuTnbnx5Tx8LmyiYG-BBjhegBkjzYqos3kNLHtusG2Ob_lmqXCXFB6JJBS47D_CR4FA/s1600/IMG_2626.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3oKTk6iH2-zyFzmGr68kCKYaGTLJGcevaYDZxVD_3tHVAfq0qyIVp7-DsQUkdm32ZrrJMZQprDGuTnbnx5Tx8LmyiYG-BBjhegBkjzYqos3kNLHtusG2Ob_lmqXCXFB6JJBS47D_CR4FA/s1600/IMG_2626.JPG" height="640" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
In the bedroom the lady's dressing table has had a few accessories added.<br />
The photo is my Mum when she was three years old.<br />
Whoops I should have dusted before I took this photo....! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi307PUTiMW8w4G_fLoX9MUSvU3xTz8zVOeGY736CSrDjQwPDP6ZNE9T73C1KG6Xc0_-URk9d1jp0BvH18Fi-J8j08bx5M0dHDY3xTi8FHFQ05U3o120kUhB6KkHyWr84B4uHRl0j-_KdQi/s1600/IMG_2627.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi307PUTiMW8w4G_fLoX9MUSvU3xTz8zVOeGY736CSrDjQwPDP6ZNE9T73C1KG6Xc0_-URk9d1jp0BvH18Fi-J8j08bx5M0dHDY3xTi8FHFQ05U3o120kUhB6KkHyWr84B4uHRl0j-_KdQi/s1600/IMG_2627.JPG" height="640" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
This next photos shows the fireplace with a beautiful clock from Halls Clocks and two tiny painted figurines,<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwa3GVngllus5w_DT4kM2QN_a-2QT-YKvPgpcdLRSdygXvb7JTVNGPH6_hxf3R-TuGHcVVh5wPEPYZd7ajpqjtkw84WjKtgXv1lsxOEBfda4LNoSEBhpg8M5QEKWdW79vi7NPNlMwmhu73/s1600/IMG_2629.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwa3GVngllus5w_DT4kM2QN_a-2QT-YKvPgpcdLRSdygXvb7JTVNGPH6_hxf3R-TuGHcVVh5wPEPYZd7ajpqjtkw84WjKtgXv1lsxOEBfda4LNoSEBhpg8M5QEKWdW79vi7NPNlMwmhu73/s1600/IMG_2629.JPG" height="640" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
It took ages to get the clock central and then I don't know if it still is at that in this photo! Difficult when you're fiddling about adding things when the fireplace is already glued in position.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiysN_9X8DBfNKH_3sx-lNQJThn9mvvi7SpLFEJtnKuY8xbbY6yHLjN5papOA8f3jP10Rk4SK14uuny2ZYabHxxfONPk0vqw9-eKmyet0S4e5UsaCTPtgMPJIpY_wGdbnWL_TKv6qczEWCo/s1600/IMG_2630.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiysN_9X8DBfNKH_3sx-lNQJThn9mvvi7SpLFEJtnKuY8xbbY6yHLjN5papOA8f3jP10Rk4SK14uuny2ZYabHxxfONPk0vqw9-eKmyet0S4e5UsaCTPtgMPJIpY_wGdbnWL_TKv6qczEWCo/s1600/IMG_2630.JPG" height="640" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
A little more centrally placed on this shot I think!<br />
<br />

<div>
Now this has long been waiting to be furnished - but with what..? Just what do you use a landing for...? Well in a dollshouse it's another room really....Another area to fill! I must admit though, to feeling quite confused as to what to put into this space and what it's real use would have been in a real house in the late Victorian/early Edwardian period....<br />
<div>
Here is the space. Now it's just a question of having a think......<br />

So with the extra few inches I had gleaned from the makeover, I set upon looking....<div>The suite I already had which was made by Bodo Henig. I fell in love with this little piece quite soon after I had bought Jubilee.</div><div><br></div><div><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">I love the shaped splash back on the washbasin and the flower detailing on it is very pretty. It's really well made and quite heavy too. </span><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">The little taps even turn!</span></div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhs8KvYbXKEKRT5157HeKs1R5NSwhdsIZ0q-FKx5h8hMZwEFeLkpjLegFyL9bWLknJNpRGEHMksE5LiDntr8mRyIZsq65L2ZEaj2S0zYGpboNzed5T_u6-bzWMF-tnu1FUplDZ-5wi_Jn9Q/s640/blogger-image-1109625638.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhs8KvYbXKEKRT5157HeKs1R5NSwhdsIZ0q-FKx5h8hMZwEFeLkpjLegFyL9bWLknJNpRGEHMksE5LiDntr8mRyIZsq65L2ZEaj2S0zYGpboNzed5T_u6-bzWMF-tnu1FUplDZ-5wi_Jn9Q/s640/blogger-image-1109625638.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">The bath has a rolled edge and claw feet, an overflow and like the basin a plug complete with chain....</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2cp_0CKWQXZYjFhyrekio6hPjS2jSFjIZkA_JZErtYD75ydYu4C4zwVfQT18O3XSH0ckhPk6MWMbNcOislOWjDzRtErCzubBcbrqnXETMYaDRIC9dtanPfbPt-xgrmtSw6-Mq_5jcmuQm/s640/blogger-image--1143914492.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2cp_0CKWQXZYjFhyrekio6hPjS2jSFjIZkA_JZErtYD75ydYu4C4zwVfQT18O3XSH0ckhPk6MWMbNcOislOWjDzRtErCzubBcbrqnXETMYaDRIC9dtanPfbPt-xgrmtSw6-Mq_5jcmuQm/s640/blogger-image--1143914492.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">The</span><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"> pipes and taps are moveable so the bath can be positioned against a wall or in the centre of the room.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhh4hkUOsatNMdmHybnzQb4ceqrSKdq2VK9lfLd9Fr8t_94BiN1XgjUlQAaBUM1oOvUXxWYZYlt8Kfo-fU7x9AOQwe3zBKp5pzzA77QOoxVC2qyONKoXlnQ8YBM7Y9fUb0u9gRrwCytGUXT/s640/blogger-image--355195077.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhh4hkUOsatNMdmHybnzQb4ceqrSKdq2VK9lfLd9Fr8t_94BiN1XgjUlQAaBUM1oOvUXxWYZYlt8Kfo-fU7x9AOQwe3zBKp5pzzA77QOoxVC2qyONKoXlnQ8YBM7Y9fUb0u9gRrwCytGUXT/s640/blogger-image--355195077.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Finally the little loo...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">The high cistern toilet again is very realistic with a real wooden seat.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinLQqAGtu10OItmYN9viFDSW1UAzBBiU62VudVkiHZsIp38myKlHQzxKEcYKo9-IHHdpyGfRc16UCpUOD-xuMQd-06LoGqjrjVoyeYkj8UxnLe_Cejk950fAabbdLEG8Yehd7_JeiQAGi7/s640/blogger-image--1014947617.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinLQqAGtu10OItmYN9viFDSW1UAzBBiU62VudVkiHZsIp38myKlHQzxKEcYKo9-IHHdpyGfRc16UCpUOD-xuMQd-06LoGqjrjVoyeYkj8UxnLe_Cejk950fAabbdLEG8Yehd7_JeiQAGi7/s640/blogger-image--1014947617.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">I may just paint the pull handle I think...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgY7QRyFjPpTKSDXMPeto-ByRyHfOm9hm-ll1CUU2DX5_5RIeY_SPzOKRAvqBVnJ8yj5xTFDtslL4G3IrgptM8IAL1Sz7mWVHgZW9Js8GXO5iJ4-QymUHf-i33t3s5eYsXclW9uNQfCoFMA/s640/blogger-image-1115084581.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgY7QRyFjPpTKSDXMPeto-ByRyHfOm9hm-ll1CUU2DX5_5RIeY_SPzOKRAvqBVnJ8yj5xTFDtslL4G3IrgptM8IAL1Sz7mWVHgZW9Js8GXO5iJ4-QymUHf-i33t3s5eYsXclW9uNQfCoFMA/s640/blogger-image-1115084581.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">With my extra space I was able to have a cupboard. I'd forgotten that I'd put a false wall in the back of the room in an attempt to cover up the floor and ceiling holes left from this originally being a landing area so that was removed too. Doing that has given me extra inches! Very important!<div>Next the old wallpaper had to come off...and then I rebuilt the 'mock staircase' shaped piece to give the illusion of stairs behind this room.</div><div>This is how it looked at this stage..</div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisrof3maleJ-PfQ-lx3ArOzYLX-Wzy3w73mTAVdZudnGCX0WIC9HV7OT9T_UVHo47cyJ4LOWJwZarwIfOm_0KiUfuHac8nhYdpmsjZYzO22N-nTcI9bMlnCtErnlH1qfqK3nW2_h2_vVS8/s640/blogger-image--1992368681.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisrof3maleJ-PfQ-lx3ArOzYLX-Wzy3w73mTAVdZudnGCX0WIC9HV7OT9T_UVHo47cyJ4LOWJwZarwIfOm_0KiUfuHac8nhYdpmsjZYzO22N-nTcI9bMlnCtErnlH1qfqK3nW2_h2_vVS8/s640/blogger-image--1992368681.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Next I filled in all the gaps and gave it all a coat of emulsion....(forgot to take a photo of that)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Wallpapering proved abit of a challenge because of the awkward shape but I managed by making paper templates of all the walls first.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3_WllNpN2sO_0tLV0Rjc_CnPXx7gvI-IxJ-QVcg2w_GnBnn2O1pRk7fWeVFDB_Z_Zk9UqrIlXyPLdGzvMt3v4RZO15XynHGTPZJo_zj4dclUhwFd77FkHdgpf8I-G2HjtryCa1AlNomXT/s640/blogger-image--2089794436.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3_WllNpN2sO_0tLV0Rjc_CnPXx7gvI-IxJ-QVcg2w_GnBnn2O1pRk7fWeVFDB_Z_Zk9UqrIlXyPLdGzvMt3v4RZO15XynHGTPZJo_zj4dclUhwFd77FkHdgpf8I-G2HjtryCa1AlNomXT/s640/blogger-image--2089794436.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhufzIfPK1XXdVgu5QgkBOFFHt4_h4l95sxv4vhMsTBOFJ-Bf3im5zWweR5S3muTSqSurhEeOJfVJAvYdxtUVXLhoROCdEpeij0rmjO8o39gKc-km5vRWOdY94IIT3vw9MOOHQE8xbZ8ujG/s640/blogger-image-718401384.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhufzIfPK1XXdVgu5QgkBOFFHt4_h4l95sxv4vhMsTBOFJ-Bf3im5zWweR5S3muTSqSurhEeOJfVJAvYdxtUVXLhoROCdEpeij0rmjO8o39gKc-km5vRWOdY94IIT3vw9MOOHQE8xbZ8ujG/s640/blogger-image-718401384.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHsvUht6syv-aFHYkGiRJB7CT9kJurhX1iAp_1fWP0dyax6YTQf5FA8QyttBJFuorIgPCNHHrhnPeuRSdD6BhEoewrrFKdhXHsodDqtJ1f1HK8U9PZzoGb4Tah1xuANEKysd75u1lZYvNq/s640/blogger-image--497635662.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHsvUht6syv-aFHYkGiRJB7CT9kJurhX1iAp_1fWP0dyax6YTQf5FA8QyttBJFuorIgPCNHHrhnPeuRSdD6BhEoewrrFKdhXHsodDqtJ1f1HK8U9PZzoGb4Tah1xuANEKysd75u1lZYvNq/s640/blogger-image--497635662.jpg"></a></div><br></div><br></div><br></div><br></div><div><br></div>Kath Cryerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11113968650589409662noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1784200322570483333.post-73104177101537511032014-03-23T21:21:00.001+00:002014-03-23T21:23:25.080+00:00In the beginning...The bathroom in this house originally began life up in the attic...(I will try and find an old photo of the very original) but I began to realise that I wasn't going to have enough rooms to make everything that was going on in my head for this property. I needed to have a re think!<br />
<div>
In my lovely 8 roomed dollshouse I wanted to have a parlour, dining room, kitchen, scullery, study, lady's bedroom, maids bedroom, nursery and bathroom that was a total of 9 rooms! </div>
<div>
With space limited and as I had two landings I thought I would sacrifice one of those and make another room from that...so this has now become the bathroom.</div>
<div>
Often box rooms became bathrooms in Victorian times....not sure about landings though but artistic licence allowing ...?</div>
<div>

<br /></div>
As I've mentioned before I felt a few rooms needed to be refurbished after my initial flurry of activity when I first bought Jubilee House. Some of my first tries at creating period rooms were a little haphazard to say the least and very under researched. That's not to say I didn't enjoy my earlier work - I did...Very much so! Now though with a little more experience under my belt, I've felt the need to improve on those early attempts<br />
<div>
and I'm more pleased with what I've managed to achieve of late.</div>
<div>
I'm having a go at the bathroom this time..<br />

<br />
I dyed the material for the curtains as I couldn't for the life of me seem able to find anything in this colour anywhere...I'm wondering whether I need to add tie backs now...<br />

<br />
This high chair again started life as a barewood piece as has most of
the furniture in this room. I changed it a little from the original however as I thought the fitting
for the tray was quite cumbersome so removed that....after being stained and waxed
I'm more pleased with the way it is now...the beautifully knitted hat I bought from the York Fair in November... <br />

<span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">Over Christmas and well into the first couple of months of 2014 I haven't done much in the way of miniature work at all....</span><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">The first couple of months, of any new year is a very busy family time for me. Jokingingly (is that a word..?) called the 'Barmy birthday months' - we have 8 of them in as many weeks. Crazy indeed!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">I've also been spending some time on my other hobby of reborn dolls...</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Now that the decoration of the nursery is complete, I've been putting in a few pieces of furniture...still more <span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">to do so I will add more pictures as I get it done.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">Here are a few to be going on with....</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">

The wallpaper is by Brodnax. I'm pleased with it, as unlike some other toile designs in 1:12 scale it isn't too large - I was mindful of the fact that this isn't a very big room and I didn't want to over power it with a big pattern....<div>
<br /></div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAoO_HeiTaSCy73fYTMghyKnyNE0oILZWCI9xPbobvdgyZFPZvadOoD34AJHycq7h4onsqMAhI3JHFyhd8bJqSyNUG4mCvTOKWaU0mgDb00zriah3fHaHp4wcdPNpBXViYv-Sg4uUxzKhj/s1600/NURSERY+BITS.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAoO_HeiTaSCy73fYTMghyKnyNE0oILZWCI9xPbobvdgyZFPZvadOoD34AJHycq7h4onsqMAhI3JHFyhd8bJqSyNUG4mCvTOKWaU0mgDb00zriah3fHaHp4wcdPNpBXViYv-Sg4uUxzKhj/s400/NURSERY+BITS.jpg" width="373" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
However I have managed to devote an odd hour here and there preparing some of the smaller items to go into this room and at the York Fair I bought the wallpaper......<span style="text-align: center;">I also got the lighting done before Christmas began calling out for attention. </span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwHOZ3W3I8Jg3ZpsuAfuKEvPLPK4vMAf7sBeAtp6CfprqfQfR5kYTrS_p0-2Jy5BJQB5-JZcbsrlot5l4DRoU-9p_nCDjxofd5y_bWGzCzke7qYqkjupQAQJYYS8VXWvHv_sUDNLbIBPd6/s1600/WALLPAPER.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="311" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwHOZ3W3I8Jg3ZpsuAfuKEvPLPK4vMAf7sBeAtp6CfprqfQfR5kYTrS_p0-2Jy5BJQB5-JZcbsrlot5l4DRoU-9p_nCDjxofd5y_bWGzCzke7qYqkjupQAQJYYS8VXWvHv_sUDNLbIBPd6/s400/WALLPAPER.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now the wallpapering can begin!</div>
<br />

<span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">Every nursery needs books and it appears that late Victorian and early Edwardian nurseries often featured a cuckoo clock too...</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
So I've been making some little books. Beatrix Potter was a much loved children's author and illustrator around this time. Her books are still as enchanting today., who can resist her beautiful pictures of wildlife and her darling little characters who have been popular with children and adults alike for many years....<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I had a go at making some little books left open</div>

<br /></div>
Anyone who is familiar with the film 'The Sound of Music' might remember<br />
A line from the song 'So long, farewell' which the Von Trappe children sang before being sent off to bed...<br />
<br />
"...and up in the nursery an absurd little bird is popping out to say 'cuckoo' ( cuckoo, cuckoo)...."<br />
<br />
So it seems that the charming little cuckoo clocks did find their way into nurseries...<br />
<br />
Here's the cuckoo clock I've made for the Jubilee nursery from a Phoenix White metal kit.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-L1nIPuXfvz0AaklX3IL09IS7jmYu_a31dGEoHWfx42FLuE2UaRp1oRBipxILqp6UkpYIWxVP6YCmyzbKRKS-nv7fWfz-TiVqaFQtTOK525QGfGM6SvFOTpV2ex5Rh3FpCJWTUqSml5N9/s640/blogger-image-554395357.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-L1nIPuXfvz0AaklX3IL09IS7jmYu_a31dGEoHWfx42FLuE2UaRp1oRBipxILqp6UkpYIWxVP6YCmyzbKRKS-nv7fWfz-TiVqaFQtTOK525QGfGM6SvFOTpV2ex5Rh3FpCJWTUqSml5N9/s400/blogger-image-554395357.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
This is such a cute, detailed little kit and after being painted brown, looks just like very intricately carved wood...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">

It started off as a plain, bare wood one.</div>

After a coat of stain and wax I then <span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">added a row of ceramic tiles to make a splash back </span></div>

I've begun gathering things together for the nursery....</div>
Last Saturday I went to the Pudsey Dollshouse Fair near Leeds and bought some lovely little pieces, including a beautiful white wire bassinette which I've painted today.<br />

<span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">I'm so pleased with how it's turned out - it's now a much better whicker colour and looks a lot more realistic I think., I made a mattress for it and added the sweet knitted pillow and blanket made by Ladybird miniatures...look at those tiny, tiny stitches!</span></div>

These black metal prams can be bought quite reasonably from various miniature outlets and in their 'naked' form they don't look much but with a little time and a few bits and pieces they can take on a whole new appearance...<br />
<br />
This is the little pram I started out with which I bought from the Dollshouse Emporium<br />
<a href="http://www.dollshouse.com/dhe/product-details.aspx?code=2468">Dollshouse Emporium Black Victorian-style Pram </a><br />

This was a lovely little project to do, I really enjoyed it - I will certainly have a go at doing another one.....</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
There are so many ways in which to personalise this little pram, using different materials and colours to make a unique and individual miniature piece for your dollshouse. </div>

All dollshouse work has to be done in sequence, which meant I could now get on with the curtains for the study...<br />
<br />
The front of the dollshouse has been waiting to be fixed back on for ages but I couldn't do that until the curtains were done...well I could but anyone who has screwed a dollshouse front on will know what a palaver it is!<br />
Along with fixing spindles, newels and bannister rails to staircases this must be one of the most difficult jobs to do so I wasn't going to mess about doing it more often than I needed to!<br />
<br />
Anyway here are a few photos of the curtains which led to the burnt finger!Who would have thought 'dollshousing' could be dangerous!<br />

I've really been on a roll with my curtain making lately so I thought I'd crack on while I'd got the knack of it....<br />
I've been slowed down now though - with a badly blistered index finger thanks to my miniature <a href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/Clover-Quilting-Accessories-Mini-Iron/dp/B002QW9URO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1382698547&sr=8-1&keywords=clover+iron">Clover Iron</a>.<br />
<br />
If anyone owns one of these please be careful! They're a nifty little tool and so very useful when making any tiny soft furnishings and clothes but because of the design of them it's so easy to get your finger in the wrong place and end up being burnt!<br />
<br />
I do remember reading the warning about this on the packaging when I first bought it, however whilst in the middle of my creative burst I totally forgot! (as you do!) I still wouldn't be without it though....I thoroughly recommend...<br />
